Why is Christian debt relief an industry?

Have you noticed how many companies advertise themselves as christian debt relief companies? Why is this a industry that people are using Christianity as a marketing tool? Are these non profit christian debt relief companies really motivated by God and Christ to help people out of their debt troubles?

I have not necessarily asked these questions to state that these christian debt relief agencies are not legitimate. Although I must admit whenever someone uses religion to sell a service that I am immediately a skeptic. However, maybe they are actually motivated by Christ to help people find debt relief.

But why this industry? Why call yourself a christian debt relief company? Can a christian debt relief company help you to reduce your credit card debt better than a debt settlement lawyer?

I really don’t have the answers to these questions. I am truly puzzled at how this industry took off. In doing this article, I checked out the Family Life Credit Services website. According to their home page,

We’re Family Life Credit Services, a nationwide nonprofit Christian Financial Counseling agency founded in 1986. Our Goal is to strengthen and encourage families and individuals through Christian faith-based financial & credit counseling. We offer programs geared at educating and financially strengthening individuals, families and communities. We offer financial educational materials free of charge as well as the opportunity to work with a certified counselor in your area of need.

We offer a number of different programs which include: Credit Counseling, CreditWise, and First-Time Homebuyer Education and Workshops. Family Life Credit Services also works with independent affiliates to provide additional services.

Family Life Credit Services is affiliated with several other Christian faith-based ministries to provide services to individuals and families within our community. Our independent affiliates include a Maternity Home, Family Legal Clinic, Christian Counseling Center, Crisis Pregnancy Clinic, Christian Radio Station and a Chaplaincy Group.

Clearly from their homepage they are on a mission to help families with their debt problems by administering Christian counseling and debt counseling.  This is a nice ministry to have, but are they legitimate?  How awful of me to be so cynical!!  It is just that I have been burned before by tele-evangelists and people using my religion for personal gain.

If you are in need of debt relief, check out these Christian debt relief companies, but remember to shop around.  Choose a debt settlement company offering the best price and service.  No reason going into more debt just because a debt settlement company advertises itself as being Christian.
