How much will it cost you to settle your debt?

If you are trying to determine whether entering into a debt relief settlement is right for you, you need to understand how much it is going to cost you.  If you are in the financial trouble that is requiring you to look into debt relief or credit card debt relief, chances are that you are having trouble paying your bills.  You need to make sure that the cost of the debt relief settlement is cheaper than your current payments.

Many debt settlement companies state that they can reduce your debt by 65%.  However, this is often misleading.  It will be difficult for the debt settlement company to negotiate this large of a reduction with all of your creditors.  Some creditors like Citibank will not settle debts for anyting less than 60-70%.  This means that you are only reducing your outstanding balance by 30-40%.  Therefor, if you are not going to get debt relief more than 30-40%, you need to make sure that the debt relief settlement cost is not too high.  You need to visit a lot of debt settlement companies to figure out what is the best deal.

Remember however that you need to look at the whole deal.  Don’t just look at the stated fees.  Some companies are much better than others.  Just visit a lot of these companies and you will start to get a feel for how much it is going to cost you for your debt relief settlement.

You will have to pay your debt settlement company for the entire time that you are receiving debt settlement services.  Many of these companies will calculate their fees on an annual basis and not explain that it will take you several years to finish with the debt settlement program.  Therefore you need to figure out how much these services are going to cost you over the entire repayment term.

Debt relief settlement can be a great option, but you need to make sure that you understand all of the terms of the program.
